Uniswap v2 constant-product scenario · Reviewed 2026-11-03

AMM impermanent loss scenario calculator

Compare a balanced 50/50 constant-product LP position with holding the same two assets after a user-entered relative price change.

Compare a balanced two-asset liquidity position with holding the same starting assets. This is a price-change scenario, not a return forecast or recommendation.

Enter three assumptions and calculate.

The starting asset amounts are treated as a balanced 50/50 value deposit at the pool’s implied starting price (asset B amount divided by asset A amount). Enter a price change greater than -100%; the relative price must stay above zero.

Method and assumptions

Let r be the final price of asset A in asset B divided by its implied starting price. The initial pool is assumed to hold amounts A₀ and B₀ with starting price B₀/A₀. For a fee-free constant-product pool, the modeled ending reserves are A₀/√r and B₀√r. The LP value in asset B is therefore 2B₀√r. Holding the original amounts is worth A₀ × (B₀/A₀ × r) + B₀ = B₀(1+r). The calculator reports LP value minus hold value, and that difference as a percentage of hold value.

Uniswap v2 uses a constant-product reserve relationship. Uniswap v3 LPs instead choose a price range; this calculator does not model a concentrated range, out-of-range positions, or range-specific fees.

Excluded: swap fees earned, protocol fees, gas, pool changes, deposits or withdrawals, taxes, and any price path between the start and end. The calculation is relative to holding the starting assets; it does not say whether either outcome is a profit or loss in your own currency.

How it works

Enter the initial amounts of the two assets and the percentage change in asset A's price relative to asset B. The model assumes the initial amounts are balanced at the pool's starting price and calculates a no-fee Uniswap v2-style scenario.

Good to know

How does the impermanent loss estimate work?

Let r be the ending price of asset A relative to asset B divided by its starting relative price. For a balanced constant-product pool, LP value without fees is the initial value multiplied by the square root of r. The value of holding the original token amounts is the initial value multiplied by (1+r)/2. The displayed difference is LP value minus hold value; the percentage compares that difference with the hold value.

Does this model include trading fees?

No. It isolates the price-change effect and excludes swap fees, protocol fees, gas, deposits and withdrawals, and other costs. Fees may affect a real position but are not forecast here.

Can I use this for Uniswap v3?

Not for a concentrated-liquidity position. This calculator models a full-range, balanced constant-product position under v2-style assumptions. Uniswap v3 positions use chosen price ranges; an out-of-range position can have different asset composition and returns.

Does impermanent loss mean the LP position lost money?

Not necessarily. The calculation compares the LP position with holding the original assets; both values can rise or fall. It does not predict prices or determine whether providing liquidity is suitable.
