Ethereum blob gas usage and fee data

Ethereum mainnet · Public JSON-RPC dataset · Reviewed 2026-11-03

Read recent Ethereum mainnet execution blocks from a public JSON-RPC endpoint. The block window shows blob usage and the blob-gas base fee; it keeps the ordinary execution-gas base fee in a separate column.

Recent block usage and fees

The table and plot cover the most recent 50 blocks returned by the selected public RPC. Blob count is derived as blobGasUsed ÷ 131,072. Blob base fee is derived from excessBlobGas using the integer fake-exponential function and the active mainnet blob schedule. The schedule value used here is the BPO2 base-fee update fraction, 11,684,671, recorded in EIP-8135. Execution base fee is the separate EIP-1559 block-header field.

How to interpret the fields

EIP-4844 adds a distinct blob-gas accounting and fee market for blob-carrying transactions. A block's blobGasUsed is its total blob gas, while excessBlobGas feeds the blob base-fee calculation. Blob gas is independent of ordinary execution gas. The blob base fee is denominated in wei per blob gas; multiplying by a transaction's blob gas gives its blob fee component. The execution base fee shown for context does not include that blob fee. Ethereum's BPO upgrades can change the fee update fraction, so this page uses the documented BPO2 mainnet value and should be reviewed when a later parameter upgrade activates.

This page reads block headers only; it does not inspect individual transactions, blob contents, rollup costs, or actual fees paid by a particular user. RPC providers may lag, rate-limit requests, or disagree briefly during reorganizations. The requested window is limited to 50 blocks, and locally saved history contains only refresh summaries. No values are filled in when RPC data is missing.

Frequently asked questions

How is blob count calculated?

Each blob uses 131,072 blob gas under EIP-4844. The page divides each block's blobGasUsed by that amount; it does not infer a count when the value is missing or inconsistent.

How is the blob base fee calculated?

The page applies EIP-4844's integer fake-exponential function to the block's excessBlobGas, with minimum base fee 1 and the current mainnet BPO2 update fraction of 11,684,671. EIP-7892 defines that blob fee parameters can change by BPO schedule. The result is wei per blob gas.

Is the blob base fee the same as Ethereum's execution base fee?

No. EIP-4844 defines a blob-gas fee market independent of ordinary execution gas. This page shows the two separately, with the execution base fee labeled in gwei per gas.

Does the page provide a complete historical archive?

No. Each refresh fetches up to 50 consecutive block headers. Optional history is only a summary of refreshes saved in this browser, not a complete provider archive or a shared site dataset.
