Crypto Fee & Tax Tools

Use this local worksheet to organize digital-asset activity and source documents before preparing a return or speaking with a tax professional. It records transaction facts; it does not decide whether an event is taxable, calculate tax, or replace complete books and records.

The IRS says taxpayers should keep records of purchases, receipts, sales, exchanges, dispositions, and transfers. For a disposition, its digital-assets page lists the asset type, transaction date and time, number of units, and fair market value in U.S. dollars as information needed to calculate gain or loss. Keep supporting statements and wallet records alongside this worksheet.

Fields are an organizational aid, not an IRS-prescribed CSV format. Event descriptions are free text; this tool does not label transactions taxable or nontaxable. Save and back up downloaded files yourself.

What to collect and reconcile

Suggested review workflow

  1. Export records from each exchange and wallet for the tax year, and save the original files without editing them.
  2. Enter or import one event per row, keeping timestamps and units as shown in the source record. Record the time zone; this worksheet’s date field is labeled UTC for consistency.
  3. Match transfers across sending and receiving accounts using transaction hashes, dates, assets, and amounts. Leave uncertain values blank and investigate them rather than guessing.
  4. Keep acquisition and disposal evidence together. Review broker statements, including any Form 1099-DA, against your own records; a statement may not cover activity on every wallet or platform.
  5. Ask a qualified tax professional how the facts apply to your jurisdiction and circumstances. This worksheet does not determine tax treatment or complete a return.
