Compare the full cost of a crypto trade and withdrawal
A practical method for comparing crypto exchange trading fees, quote spreads and network withdrawals, with official documentation and calculator links.
What is the clearest way to compare exchange costs?
Compare the same asset, order size, order type, payment method, account tier, and withdrawal network. Add the explicit trading fee, the difference between the quoted price and a reference market price, and any withdrawal or network charge. Check the final order preview and withdrawal screen because rates and eligibility can vary by product, market, location, and time. Reviewed 2026-11-03.
How are trading fees different from spread?
A trading fee is a charge applied to an executed order under the provider’s fee schedule. Kraken says Kraken Pro order fees depend on factors such as 30-day volume, pair, and whether an order is maker or taker. A spread is a price difference embedded in a quote: Coinbase says simple buy/sell quotes and crypto conversions can include a spread, shown in the order preview. Record these separately so a displayed fee rate does not make the quote look cheaper than it is.
How should I estimate the spread cost?
Choose a reference price for the same asset and moment, then compare the effective buy or sell price shown in the order preview with that reference. For a rough one-way estimate, multiply the absolute price difference per coin by the coin amount. For a round trip, consider both the entry and exit prices. This is an estimate: markets move, and the reference venue or timestamp may differ from the exchange quote.
What should I include for a crypto withdrawal?
Compare the asset and exact network, then check the exchange withdrawal charge, any minimum, and whether a separate network transaction charge applies. Coinbase Global Exchange describes its network fee as an estimate of anticipated network transaction fees and says the fee is disclosed at transaction time. Kraken lists withdrawal fees and minimums by cryptocurrency/network. Confirm the destination supports the selected network; a wrong or unsupported network can result in loss.
What do this site’s calculators omit?
The exchange cost calculator applies your entered trading-fee rate and spread estimate to the same order amount and trade count, then adds your flat withdrawal assumptions. It does not fetch prices or infer a spread from live quotes, and it omits maker/taker eligibility, tier changes, payment method charges, taxes, variable network costs, or asset/network availability. The profit and loss tool subtracts only the total fee amount you enter; it does not fetch prices, infer fees, or calculate taxes. Use these as simple scenarios, then verify current written terms and the final provider previews.
